Fluval Edge Review

If you’re looking for a small aquarium also known as a nano aquarium this fluval edge review will outline some of the pros and cons of this aquarium to help you decide if it’s right for you.

PROS:

Size:  It’s small – just 6 gallons (23 liters) and is perfect if space is at a premium. The glass tank itself measures 17” wide x 9” tall x 10” deep Overall size including the bottom stand is just  17” x 14” x 14”

You can fill the tank right up to the brim due to the glass top.

Position Anywhere: Looks great in any room of the home or office.

The Look:  It’s sleek and modern looking design with glass on all sides – the world’s first 3D cube –  means that you can view the fish from all sides including the top of the tank. The unique floating base gives the aquarium a very contemporary look which is why the tank is so attractive and popular.

No unsightly wires: The water filtration system and lighting fits neatly into the stand – the cords are fed through the bottom in the back of the stand.

Adaptable: Can be used for freshwater or saltwater fish.

Advanced 3 stage filtration system which is completely hidden enhances the overall look. This filter which can be adjusted creates a significant amount of surface agitation and movement to allow for proper gas exchange and appropriate oxygen levels.

Easy to set up – just a few clicks – the stand snaps together and the glass tank just slides into the stand. Only takes a few minutes at most.

The Fluval Edge Lighting system enhances the beauty of the tank by combining with the gentle flow of water in the aquarium to create a visually stunning effect.

Easy access for maintenance: You simply lift off the top cover to feed your fish and the lights flip up easily to change any bulbs.

Range of accessories: There are a number of accessories designed for this aquarium to enhance the overall appearance and aid low maintenance including the Edge Gravel Vac, the Edge Algae Magnet and the Edge Fish Net.

Choice of colors: The top and bottom are available in black, pewter or burnt orange to suit your décor.

CONS:

Due to access being through the top aperture only it means that anything added to the tank has to be done through this gap. The fish net and gravel cleaner accessories have been designed especially to assist access. Take this minor point into account when choosing internal decorations.

You will be limited to the amount of fish you can have in this tank but there are species particularly suited to this aquarium.  Five or six small species should be able to coexist happily in most cases. A few examples include: small Rasbora species, Guppies, small Tetras (Ember, Neon, Black Neon, Glowlight),  Neo. brevis, Neo. ocellatus White Cloud Mountain Minnows, small shrimp (Red Cherry shrimp) and Bumblebee Goby

If you intend keeping any fish which like to gulp air at the top of the tank you will need to retain a slightly lower water level

The tank is more suited to freshwater fish due to its small size and may pose more of a challenge as a marine set up. It's the same with any small aquarium.

As with any aquarium it’s about weighing up the advantages against the disadvantages. No aquarium is perfect and only you can decide on what’s right for you and your situation.

The Fluval Edge Aquarium is right up there in terms of being one of the best looking aquariums and one of the easiest  to maintain.

If looks and ease of maintenance are important to you then it’s an ideal choice.
